Hiring dedicated developers in Bangladesh: monthly rates by role and a vetting checklist

Hiring dedicated developers in Bangladesh costs $1,200-3,900 per developer per month in 2026 depending on role and seniority, with a cross-functional pod including QA and a project manager available from $699. That is roughly a fifth of a London salary and a quarter of an Indian tier-1 agency rate. The catch is that the Bangladeshi market is uneven: the top quartile of engineers is excellent and the headline rate tells you nothing about which quartile you are getting. This guide gives you the full rate card by role, the three ways to hire (direct, through an agency, or as part of a managed team), the twelve checks that separate a strong developer from a strong CV, and a one-week paid trial plan that has not failed us yet.

01

What dedicated developers cost in Bangladesh by role

These are Software Chamber's published monthly rates for full-time dedicated developers (160 hours a month) in 2026. They include the engineer's workstation, office, holiday cover, HR and basic management overhead; they do not include a project manager or QA unless you add those seats or choose a managed pod. Part-time seats at 80 hours are available at 55 percent of the full-time rate for most roles.

Divide by 160 and the hourly figures are $7.50-24. If a Dhaka vendor quotes $40 an hour for a mid-level developer, you are paying a 200 percent margin; if a freelancer quotes $5 an hour, ask who is actually doing the work and what happens when they are ill. The rate card exists so the conversation starts from a known number.

USD per month, 2026. Ten percent discount for three or more seats. BDT equivalents at about ৳122 per dollar exclude 15 percent VAT for local clients; exports are zero-rated.

02

Three ways to hire: direct, agency or managed team

The hiring model determines who carries the risk of a bad hire, who manages the work and how fast you can scale up or down. Most foreign companies start with an agency or a managed team and consider direct employment only after a year, once they know the market and have a team lead in Dhaka.

ModelHow it worksMonthly cost (mid-level)You handleRisk you carry
Direct employment or contractorYou recruit, contract and pay the individual; often via an employer-of-record৳1-1.8 lakh salary + EOR fee $300-600Recruiting, HR, equipment, management, coverAttrition, mis-hires, compliance
Agency dedicated seatsThe agency employs the engineer and assigns them to you full time$1,900-2,200Priorities, code review, directionVendor quality; mitigated by trial and replacement terms
Managed pod (IT Team as a Service)A team with a PM and QA delivers against your backlog$1,799 for 160 hours (Growth Pod)Outcomes and priorities onlyLowest; the vendor owns delivery
Fixed-price projectA scoped product for a fixed feeFrom $4,900 per projectAcceptance at milestonesScope clarity

03

The 12-point vetting checklist

Use this with any vendor or candidate. It takes about two hours per developer and catches almost every mis-hire we have seen. The point is not to run a Silicon Valley interview loop; it is to confirm that the person can do the specific work you need and communicate while doing it.

  1. 1Confirm the person is who the CV says: a video call, a government ID check by the vendor and a LinkedIn profile that matches.
  2. 2Ask for two pieces of code they wrote in the last six months, ideally a pull request with review comments, and read it with them.
  3. 3Give a 60-90 minute take-home task from your real backlog, paid, with a brief written the way you would write it for your own team.
  4. 4Review the task for correctness, tests, naming, commit messages and the questions they asked before starting. Questions are a good sign.
  5. 5Ask them to explain a production incident they handled: what broke, what they did, what they changed afterwards.
  6. 6Check the stack match honestly: five years of PHP is not three years of Django; ask for the specific framework.
  7. 7Test written communication by asking for a short written summary of the take-home task's trade-offs.
  8. 8Confirm English on a call and in writing; both matter, and they differ.
  9. 9Ask the vendor for the developer's current allocation; a 'dedicated' engineer on two other projects is not dedicated.
  10. 10Agree working hours and overlap in writing, including public holidays in both countries.
  11. 11Confirm equipment, internet backup and power backup; ask for a photo of the workstation if the person is remote.
  12. 12Take one reference from a previous client, by call, with the question 'would you hire them again, and for what?'

04

The one-week paid trial that settles it

Interviews predict interviews. A paid trial predicts work. We recommend, and offer, a one-week paid trial at the seat rate before any long-term commitment. Structure it like a normal week and you learn what six months would look like.

  • Day 1: onboarding to your repository, environment and a ticket with clear acceptance criteria; watch how many questions come back and how good they are
  • Days 2-4: two or three real tickets of increasing ambiguity, with a daily written stand-up in your channel
  • Day 5: a demo of the week's work, a short retrospective and a written note from the developer on what they would change in your codebase
  • Judge: correctness, test coverage, communication cadence, how they handled ambiguity and whether you would be happy to have them in the stand-up for the next year
  • Decide within two working days; a good developer will have other offers

05

Where to find dedicated developers in Bangladesh

The channels differ in quality, speed and risk. Most foreign companies that hire successfully use two of them in parallel: an agency shortlist for speed and quality control, and a direct channel for a specific senior hire.

ChannelSpeedQuality controlTypical costNotes

06

Managing a dedicated developer from abroad

The developers who 'did not work out' in engagements we have reviewed were, in most cases, never given a clear backlog, a reviewer or a daily rhythm. A dedicated developer is a remote employee; manage them like one and the arrangement works. The minimum viable management overhead is about two hours a week per developer from someone technical on your side, or a project manager seat if you do not have that person.

Rhythm

A written daily stand-up in the project channel, a weekly demo of working software, a fortnightly planning session and a monthly review of velocity and quality. Record the demo for anyone who cannot attend. Keep the ticket board as the single source of truth so that nothing depends on a call.

Code ownership and review

The repository sits in your GitHub or GitLab organisation, the developer is a member, and every change goes through a pull request with at least one review. If you do not have a reviewer, add a senior seat or a managed pod rather than letting unreviewed code reach production. CI with automated tests is non-negotiable from week one.

Security and access

Role-based access to cloud and SaaS, a shared password vault, MFA everywhere, masked data in development and a quarterly access review. Offboarding is a checklist run the same day someone leaves. These controls are the same you would apply to a local hire; the distance just makes skipping them more tempting.

07

Bangladesh vs other hiring markets for dedicated developers

Companies hiring dedicated developers compare Bangladesh with India, Pakistan, the Philippines, Vietnam and Eastern Europe. The table shows where each wins. Bangladesh is the lowest-cost market in the table for mid-level mainstream engineering with good written English; it is not the deepest market for very senior specialists, where Eastern Europe still leads.

MarketMid-level developer / monthStrengthWeakness
Bangladesh$1,900-2,200Price, lower attrition, UK and Gulf overlap, Python and JavaScript depthSmaller pool of rare specialists
India$2,500-3,800Largest pool, enterprise depthTier-1 attrition and rate inflation
Pakistan$2,000-3,000Strong mobile and .NET talentPayment and banking friction for some clients
Philippines$2,200-3,200Spoken English, US overlapThinner backend and DevOps pool
Vietnam$2,800-4,200Strong engineering cultureWritten English, fewer UK-hour teams
Poland / Ukraine$5,000-7,500Senior specialists, EU data regimePrice

08

Contract terms that protect both sides

A good dedicated-developer contract is short and specific. These are the clauses we include and recommend you insist on with any vendor.

  • Named engineers with seniority, hours and overlap window; replacement only with your approval and with paid handover
  • Monthly billing in advance, 30-day notice to reduce or end seats, 10 percent discount at three or more seats
  • All intellectual property assigned to you on payment; confidentiality and non-solicitation both ways
  • A data-processing agreement with the UK IDTA or EU SCCs where personal data is involved
  • Working-hours, holiday and response-time commitments written into a schedule
  • An exit clause: full handover of code, documentation and credentials within five working days of termination

Frequently asked questions

In 2026, $1,200-1,600 a month for a junior developer, $1,900-2,600 for a mid-level developer and $2,900-3,900 for a senior developer or specialist, full time at 160 hours. QA engineers start at $900 and project managers at $1,200. Three or more seats earn a 10 percent discount, and a managed Growth Pod with two developers, QA and a PM costs $1,799 a month.

The top quartile is as good as anywhere for mainstream web, mobile, Python and JavaScript work, with strong written English and a stable senior tier that moves jobs less often than in Indian tier-1 cities. The market is uneven, so the vetting process matters more than the country: read real code, run a paid trial week and take a reference. A reputable agency does that filtering for you.

You can hire a single dedicated developer from $1,200 a month, and it works well when you have a technical person on your side to review their work and set priorities. If you do not, a single developer tends to drift; a small pod with a project manager and QA, from $699 a month for 60 hours, usually produces better results for the same budget.

A freelancer sells hours across several clients with no cover, no QA and no contract beyond the platform's terms; it suits short tasks. A dedicated developer works only for you, on your hours, inside your tools, with the agency providing HR, equipment, cover for absence and replacement if it does not work out. The dedicated rate is usually 20-40 percent above a freelancer's and the delivery risk is far lower.

Through an established agency, one to two weeks from brief to a vetted developer starting, including interviews and a paid trial week; standard pods can be live within 72 hours. Direct recruiting takes four to eight weeks plus notice periods of one to two months for employed candidates.

UK hours are natural: a 10am-7pm Dhaka day overlaps London by five to six hours. For US clients, teams commonly work 1pm-10pm Dhaka time, giving three to four hours of overlap with the East Coast morning; full US-hours shifts are possible at a premium. Agree the overlap window in the contract rather than assuming it.

You do, provided the contract says so. Insist on an IP assignment clause that transfers all work product to you on payment, keep the repository in your own organisation and the cloud account in your name from day one, and avoid any arrangement where the vendor holds assets until a final payment. Software Chamber's contracts assign IP on payment as standard.

Hire vetted developers with a paid trial week

Named engineers at published rates, a one-week paid trial before you commit, and your own accounts from day one. Three or more seats earn 10 percent off.
